Background
JAM Kids initially started in 2022 as an outreach initiative under the name Operation Christmas Child (OCC), a 12-week program designed to serve the children of the Northern Cape. After its success, it was requested that the program continue independently, and it was then renamed JAM Kids, with our operations Manager taking the lead.
Over the course of the next two years, JAM Kids grew, gaining traction and becoming an important part of the community. At the end of 2024, recognising its impact and potential, it was decided to integrate the program as a permanent initiative under Nama Youth Guardians.
What we offer

Today, JAM Kids serves between 30-45 children aged 5-13 in the Port Nolloth community. Through play, dance, and hands-on activities, the program focuses on building emotional intelligence by helping children understand and manage mental health, express their feelings openly, and develop the skills to speak about their emotions in a healthy way. It also emphasises personal hygiene and self-care, as well as teaching key values like love, forgiveness, self-control, and kindness—qualities that form the foundation of positive, resilient character.
Starting in 2024, JAM Kids also hosts an annual Christmas play where kids showcase their creativity and teamwork through dance and various performances. These performances not only build confidence but also foster a sense of community.

The JAM Kids program also encourages active involvement in outreach initiatives through the Guardians in Action program. This provides our youth with hands-on experience in serving their communities, strengthening their sense of responsibility and compassion for others. By engaging in these initiatives, the children learn the importance of giving back and contributing to the betterment of the world around them
